Digital Art - Life Drawing - May 2014

Recently I've been committing almost all my time to finishing one animated film and planning another. Sometimes I just force myself to work on some smaller things, so I attended attended a life drawing session at my local art centre and sketched a few bodies, and to my surprise a few came out ok.

It was more of a pose for the models than the artists, so most of the poses lasted only five minutes (though it felt like five seconds)

The model for this one held her pose for about 20 minutes though.

(Those times, of course, don't represent how long I spent editing them digitally.)

I think there's a definite difference between the one drawn in five and fifteen minutes, and not necessarily for better or worse. I tend to spend as much time as possible correcting each piece, but placing restrictions on yourself can often improve one's artwork. Restrictions, after all, are what made Schoenberg's 12 tone music and Ernest Vincent Wright's "Gatsby" so unique.
