Digital Art - Life Drawing - May 2014

Recently I've been committing almost all my time to finishing one animated film and planning another. Sometimes I just force myself to work on some smaller things, so I attended attended a life drawing session at my local art centre and sketched a few bodies, and to my surprise a few came out ok.

It was more of a pose for the models than the artists, so most of the poses lasted only five minutes (though it felt like five seconds)

The model for this one held her pose for about 20 minutes though.

(Those times, of course, don't represent how long I spent editing them digitally.)

I think there's a definite difference between the one drawn in five and fifteen minutes, and not necessarily for better or worse. I tend to spend as much time as possible correcting each piece, but placing restrictions on yourself can often improve one's artwork. Restrictions, after all, are what made Schoenberg's 12 tone music and Ernest Vincent Wright's "Gatsby" so unique.

You can view these on my Behance page here.

Animation: A Vision of Man and Death

This is a short animated film I made it 2013, my first film actually, and currently my longest, although I am working on some larger projects.

The voice acting is by Joshua Ogle, and the sound was mixed by Hugues Betrand.

And the pulsing, beautiful, meditative music was made by the talented Mohave Triangles. If you want to hear more of their music, you can go to their bandcamp.

An extra special thanks to Mohave Triangles for letting me submit my film to some film festivals using their music, which I'll keep you updated on if I get accepted.

It was voiced by Joshua Ogle and the music is by Laryssa Chan, whose music you can hear on her Soundcloud here.

I made it using the ultra-cool micro phone lens which you can purchase here.

Short Film: Essay on Man

Here's my latest short film/animation: (click here to see it)

It's based off the poem of the same title by Alexander Pope.

It's read by the amazing Joshua Ogle and the music is by the talented Laryssa Chan, whose soundcloud is here.

Animation: The Art Assignment - Intimate, Indispensable GIF - Photography, Charcoal, Digital - March 2013

Toyin Odutola, a New York Based Artist, challenged viewers of “The Art Assignment” to create an animated gif that articulates something that is intimate and indispensable to them. This is what I did:

She, as an artist mostly works with her hands, and created a gif of her hands moving. However, I see the creation of artwork as an interaction between by body and other objects, such as a pencil.

I wanted to convey the intimate and indispensable relationship I have with the tools I use to create art. I am a digital artist, so the main tool I use is the computer, but I also use photographs and traditional media such as charcoal. So, I created a gif in three parts that illustrates my relationship with these tools. In addition, the process I used to create this gif used all three media – charcoal, photography and digital art.
Unfortunately, due to large file sizes I can't upload the gif in its original quality. You can however watch the video of it on my YouTube channel or see some of my favorite screenshots of it in full hd on my Behance page

Also go check out The Art Assignment, the YouTube channel that inspired me to make this, and Mohave Triangles, who produced the music in the video above.
