Animation: The Art Assignment - Intimate, Indispensable GIF - Photography, Charcoal, Digital - March 2013
Toyin Odutola, a New York Based Artist, challenged viewers of “The
Art Assignment” to create an animated gif that articulates something that is
intimate and indispensable to them. This is what I did:
She, as an artist mostly works with her hands,
and created a gif of her hands moving. However, I see the creation of artwork
as an interaction between by body and other objects, such as a pencil.
I wanted to convey the
intimate and indispensable relationship I have with the tools I use to create
art. I am a digital artist, so the main tool I use is the computer, but I also
use photographs and traditional media such as charcoal. So, I created a gif in three
parts that illustrates my relationship with these tools. In addition, the
process I used to create this gif used all three media – charcoal, photography
and digital art.
Unfortunately, due to large file sizes I can't upload the gif in its original quality. You can however watch the video of it on my YouTube channel or see some of my favorite screenshots of it in full hd on my Behance page.
Also go check out The Art Assignment, the YouTube channel that inspired me to make this, and Mohave Triangles, who produced the music in the video above.
